Hi, I'm Heather Telford, veteran of 22 Canadian winters. Winter here is definitely breathtaking, the temperatures freeze the doors closed, frost the eyelashes and create intricate patterns across the windows. What also takes my breath away is the beauty of a snowfall, a unique and delicate snowflake or the precariously balanced pile of snow atop a berry or pinecone. The beauty of winter inspires my art and cardmaking as I create sweeping snowscapes and frosty close ups. I splatter snow over card-sized scenes and contrast multicoloured skies with bright white trees or midnight silhouettes.

I would love you to join me in creating winter inspired art and cards. Whether you are surrounded by snow or not, the colours and patterns of winter make beautiful themes for Christmas, holiday, thank you and birthday cards. While creating cards year after year I have developed techniques that I repeat and adapt depending on the colours, stamps and dies I have on hand. It is those tried and true techniques I want to share with you in this class. Not only will you have access to three multi-video lessons I will suggest variations and substitutions for making each winter scene your own.

Winter Wonder is very much a technique class; you do not need to have the exact stamps, inks or dies as I do. Not surprisingly tree stamps and dies do feature in the projects along with dye ink pads and watercolour paper.

What is in the class?

Winter Wonder is divided into three lessons. We begin by creating midnight skies, also known as galaxy art, northern lights or snowy skies. We will use two different techniques to create the sky then a range of stamps and dies to add interest and whimsy to the foreground.

In lesson two we will zoom in on holly and berries, combining stamping and painting to create two cards from one large panel. These cards incorporate both heat and dry embossing to create elegant highlights and embellishments. Suggestions for different stamps and colour schemes will be included.

Lesson three features the snowscapes I love to make. For the first scene I return to the sponging technique I developed years ago and update it to incorporate new tools. The final project captures a snowy hillside dotted with snow covered trees using stamping and watercolour techniques. The videos take you step by step through the whole process as I explain how and why my chosen supplies and techniques are perfect for creating card-sized works of art

Through out the class there will be supply lists, extra notes, downloadable instruction sheets and plenty of photos.

Do I need to have all the same inks, stamps and dies that you use?

No, you don't. I sincerely hope you will be able to make the cards in this class with supplies you have on hand. Do you have a variety of dye inks such as distress, memento or other brands? Do you have tree stamps and winter foliage stamps featuring holly, berries, pine branches or pinecones? Do you have tree or foliage dies? If so you will be able to create these cards.
You will need good watercolour paper, preferably 100% cotton. I talk about the supplies in the introduction.
